Springboard Research says that India is set to be the fastest growing SOA market in Asia with an expected CAGR of 49% from 2006-9. IBM is seen as the leader with Oracle, BEA and TIBCO following behind. This is in line with my thinking. I believe that India will play the role of an “edge” market for SOA and will see considerable action in terms of growth, innovation and value creation.
Apart from the domestic market, there is activity on other fronts. IBM which had bought Webify in the SOA space is now leveraging Webify’s large development footprint in India to establish SOA solution centers in India and China. Also, not surprisingly Indian service providers like Infosys, Wipro, etc. are aggressively building SOA capabilities. They believe that more outsourcing is likely to happen due to SOA although this viewpoint is still somewhat contentious (see Joe McKendrick’s discussion about SOA’s impact on outsourcing here). Given all these factors, India will punch above its weight class in determining the future of SOA.
